These handmade wooden seed trays are made using a Japanese technique of charring the inside of the tray and sealing with linseed oil to create a waterproof layer.

They will need drying out in the winter months and re-oiling annually to retain their water resistance. Think of this as a ritual rather than a chore.

I advise that you line the tray with natural material such as sheep’s wool before you add your compost. I like to use a carpet bolster to create seedling ‘blocks’ and scoop them out with a spoon when they are ready to be planted out.

These handmade seed trays are a 100% natural way of raising seedlings.
